Building Permits
The Village of Middleport Zoning/Code Enforcement Office ensures that all construction and major renovation projects in the Village comply with the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention & Building Code and Village of Middleport Zoning Ordinance. The Office reviews building plans, issues work permits, conducts building and site inspections, issues certificates of compliance and certificates of occupancy, and conducts other work in support of the Building Code and Zoning Ordinance. Some projects that require a work permit may also require Village of Middleport Planning Board or Zoning Board of Appeals review (see below).

Planning Board Responsibilities
The Village of Middleport Planning Board reviews and makes recommendations to the Village Board on matters broadly affecting growth and development within the Village. The Village Board is responsible for reviewing and approving site plans as well as requests to subdivide or combine tracts of land. Some projects that require Village Board review may trigger Niagara County Planning Board review and/or New York State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR).

Zoning Board of Appeals Process
The Village of Middleport Zoning Board of Appeals reviews and approves requests for use variances and area variances, which are exceptions to the Zoning Ordinance. It also reviews and makes recommendations to the Village Board on special permits and zoning amendments. Some projects that require Zoning Board of Appeals review may trigger Niagara County Planning Board review and/or New York State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR).
